Wiring woes

2005 F-350 diesel

When I first got it the radio was shutting off by its self, my 02 did the same thing so I wasn't to worried about it.

But things have advanced , radio shuts off , windows wont work?
Goes on and off at will , does not seem to be road bump related as they go off and on when Im not moving.

Will stay off until I restart truck sometimes and other times it only stays off for a few minutes.

Anyone got any ideas?

Just spit-balling, but does it have an accessory delay relay? That's one thing that does tie radio and windows together.

Yes it does.
I forgot to mention it seemed to get worse after I washed truck.
I didn't spray water anywhere that should have made a difference.

hello, my2005 ford f350 superduty is doing that and now i'm at a loss, as I just baught my truck in jan. of this year.
been doing a lot of reading and some say to check the ignition switch, and the neutral switch on the stearing colum, and to check the batteries, the fuses, and to check the fuse box under the dash that a pin could be making a bad connection.and to check the starter etc.first time owning a ford, don't know what to do except listen to those who know more about this electrical problem.

Just a test to try, next time everything goes out tap or slap the top of your dash above the gauge cluster. That is where a battery saver relay (or some relay like that) is located that powers most of these things and has been found to be the fault of this problem a few times.

You likely have water leaking in around the windshield and getting into the fuse panel and possibly other electrical components under the dash, been a pretty common problem with these trucks.

I smashed the top of dash the other day I was a little frustrated......radio came back on.

I hit it pretty hard , not sure if it was a fluke or it jarred it on again.

Is it a replaceable part?

Water leaking around the windshield? What to do with that?
I can probably get windshield sealed but what is the water getting on to cause short?

Might be able to get away with a good clean silcone glue job to seal a leaky windshield.

The relay up in the dash is in the gauge cluster and it is said the whole cluster needs to be replaced to fix it. I couple others have torn into the cluster, one I remember saying the solder joints around the relay were bad and I forget what the other did.

I would do some checking and see if you can find signs of water. Have heard water gets into the fuse panel as well as other things. In my experience getting the water stopped, blown out and dried out may cure some of your problems, other issues may require some new parts. Most important thing is get the water stopped first.

My windshield got replaced when the truck was only a couple years old so thankfully I haven't had problems with leaks, but plenty of others have.

If it were mine I would have the windshield replaced or cut out and resealed. I have never had much luck with trying to seal a leaky one up. Bought a new 94 Dodge and went around and around with the dealer to get leaks stopped in both the windshield and rear window. After about 6 tries and failures by the dealer, I took it to a glass repair shop where they cut the windows out and reinstalled them.

thanks for the reply, got a red seal mechanic looking at it. gauges work now, signal lights work now, radio works now.
it had a remote start in it and an after market alarm system that was toast.
my mechanic riped all that junk out and put the wiring back to factory state.
