Remove coolant before adding VC-12.

Howdy,

19,000 miles/ 10 months and the correct 3 in 1 strips from Accustrip show both radiators (yes i did drain from side/cold radiator ) less than 5ppm (yeloowish tan) on nitrites and dilution good 50/50. The secondary contamination test came good.

My two questions are (1) Does this not seem early for additives ? (2) Do I remove 32 ounces from the radiator before adding ? And same for the air coolant but 16 oz. ? The reason I ask is both resrvoir/degas bottles are full cold and adding more liquid ???

I wish I could just screw on a need release filter like my big rig has...

For now Im gonna finish up fuel filters and wait for replies. Thanks for input. Safe weekend.

Tim

If it was my truck, I'd just do a drain and refill with new coolant. Why screw with it. JMHO.

I'd just take out enough so you don't over fill and put in the VC-12. You can add it twice during your coolants life ( 105,000 miles)

Good information. Painted Horse. My check coolant additive message just came on at 103,000. I will wait until I get back to Florida and change the coolant.

Guess I better do my homework. Less than 5ppm nitrates is what the OAT coolant is. Zero nitrates. Did not need to add VC-12. Found this info on another forum and also when it does need the additive, (by results of the secondary condition test) to not overfill. Drain as necessary. Maybe this helps someone.
