I beam help.

I have a 1979 f100 with the I beams flipped. The tires wear on the outside. Is it possible to fix the issue with an alignment?

Clarify what you mean by 'alignment'.

Welcome to fte.

Were you making it a "prerunner"? With the beams flipped a traditional alignment is likely impossible.

With flipped beams your camber is off and while some people say that you can bend them to the proper spec I have yet to come across anyone who can prove it. Those beams have already been bent so you can't flip them back. The other wonderfull news is that your castor is off to. Get another set of beams and put it back to normal. For all the hassle of dropping or raising suspensions do it right and buy the proper kit. Leave Mickey mouse for Minnie to play with. Welcome to FTE

WOW! I've been twisting wrenches on these trucks for years. I've never thought of, dreamed of or heard of this. Sounds like Mini divorced Mickey to do some Goofy.

I think my key board needs a breathalyzer tester before operation

Theres a couple of threads on here about bending and flipping beams. This was a thing people did many decades ago before there were custom beams. Some people wouldrather bugger up their front end than spend $500. Good ole silly *******.

I'm tellin' ya some enterprising fabricator should engineer a bolt-on subframe to lift 2WD Bumps and Dents... just like the aftermarket does for some 4WD IFS trucks.

... and a simple, creative means to address the steering linkage angles.

I hear ya Hio. I want to drop my front 2" but because I'll be running between 16 and 18,000 lbs gcvw I want some load specs on dropped beams. Lots of pretty pics, no specs. I want highway handling with no fear of breakage if I hit a patch of frost boiled pavement going down a 7% grade around a curve in a mountain pass. That raised spindle puts a lot more stress on your beams than any amount of weight I'll be carrying and I don't want them flexing or bending. Kept the front frame section from the 350 that got wrote off in order to keep my options open. It's either raise the motor and cross member or Z the frame and dig out the 1/4" plate and 2x4x1/4 tubing, have lot's of channel in my metal pile and my brother has his tig papers.

I understand, I bought the truck like this. It has 37 inch tires on the front and 38 inch tires on the back. I saw on thread that you could fix it with a pitman arm and kingpin. Before I spend the money to do it correctly I was just wondering if I could get it aligned to fix the problem.

The only suggestions I have at this point is to go to the advanced search feature and see if theres any relative threads that may have your answers. Or google variations of your question until you find a page with some decent leads. Camber change would be quite dramatic and I doubt it could be completely repaired with a kingpin sleeve change, would probably need machining, hence "lets just bend the beams". Normally castor would be adjustable with the radious arms but we dont know if beams were flipped left for right or just flipped over. Either way the radious arm mount would need to be lowered to match the flip.
Feeling Po'd, post the po's gps coordinates and maybe someone with access to a helo will straffe him by accident.
Post a pic or 2 so we can see what we're talking about, there may be something we're missing. Notice that no beam flippers have posted to this thread. Be afraid, Very afraid.LOL. Good luck with your search.

Well, if we're defining it that way ... then yes, fixing the problem would fix the problem.

IMO, your best bet is to try to get things back the way they belong, then if you want it lifted, do it right. Ford didn't include an adjustment to compensate for people putting things together backwards/upside-down. If the I-beams are bent/modified, time to start hunting in junkyards for donors.

Yeah, their system is cool and I've been eyeballing their three- and five-inch system for a while. However, the price, even moreso with the F250/F350, is comparatively astronomical when compared to the 'kits' offered by Rancho, Skyjacker, Rough Country, etc. for let say a 2WD Sierra. Different animals I know but Autofab seems to be the only system for Bumps and Dents.

Anybody ever think about grafting a newer subframe?
