Just read the list and it says over 500,000 2004-2005 Rangers are affected by the defective Takata air bag recall. Is there a way of disabling the air bag system until I get the replacement parts installed in my 2004?
I entered my VIN again, and now it's finally listed as a recall for the passenger side airbag inflater only. However, it's listed, "RECALL STATUS: Recall INCOMPLETE. Remedy not yet available."
I imagine that with 35 million vehicles to replace parts for, the Ranger might be back in production before they finish making all the parts for this recall.
Noticed some time ago that 2004 through 2011 American built Rangers are affected, yet my particular VIN for 2009 XLT shows no outstanding recalls at this time based off the official Ford owners website.
Is this a matter of them not getting around to it (no letter from Henry as of yet) but I can expect one next year, or golly knows when, or am I good to go??
I've heard of a few people wanting to disable their Takata-built air bags, but remember one thing: More lives have been saved because of the airbag than have killed. However, it probably doesn't you you much comfort when you seen another person was killed by their air bag.
It also doesn't give the owner much comfort when Ford has not been able to give anybody a certain date when the replacements will be available. I suspect there are a few companies that wish your truck will wear out before they have to give you a replacement air bag.
I don't think it is Ford's problem. Takata has about 30 million of these to replace it going to take a while. And they will due the high humidity areas first.
