First post so here goes and it is a two parter. I have a 02 F350 7.3 auto that is getting harder to start all the time. Over the past year+ I have replaced VC gaskets injector harness, under Valve covers, injectors, tested glow plugs and relay many times, replaced ICP sensor. Who knows what else. When I bought the truck 300,000 kms/180,000miles, the guy said that if it was close to freezing it needed to be plugged in. We spent the winter in Az and it started not to bad. It gives the impression that I am winding up a rubber band and when it is tight enough, it will start. Well since we came home, it needs to be plugged in even if it is 10*C/50*f. I think it is dusted as it has an aftermarket air filter on it. Now for the big question. I have a 97 7.3 5spd that was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. Tonight I found a 99 7.3 auto with 180,000 miles on it that runs really good. Will either engine bolt right in or will they need some modifications to work. All three are F on the Vin. Hope this long winded post makes sense. Any other suggestions to try before I pull it out?
An engine swap is a lot of work to avoid doing a simple compression test.
And even though you've tested the glow plugs and relay.... have you actually replaced them? They can still test within spec, yet not function well enough to start in colder weather.
If you actually had an engine problem, it would also have a hard time starting in warm weather too.
