Right after I had my transmission replaced at the dealer on my 98' Expo 4.6L, I started having Idling problems. I would only have the low Idling problems when I was turning into a parking space or something similar to that. I took the truck back to them so they could check it out. The diagnostic test showed a misfire code. They didn't know what the exact problem was so they suggested I change my plugs and wires (I just hit 101,000), change my fuel filter, get my fuel injectors serviced, and maybe change the Idle air control valve. I did the plugs, wires, and fuel filter my self (Which was not fun) and now my check engine light is on. I rechecked the engine compartment to see if i unplugged any hoses and I didn't see any. I called the dealer and they told me that it was common for the check engine light to come on after the plugs and wires were done due to a misfire code. He said it would go away in a few days. Well, it's been a few days and the light is still on. Any suggestions?
I would go by an Auto Zone. They have code readers and will tell you what code you are getting. They do it for free. Let us know what code they tell you is coming up, then we can go from there. There are so many things that make the CEL come on, this will make it easier to know where to start from...
If your problem is fixed as mentioned by the dealer, then try disconnecting your batter and reconnecting it. If your problem is solved and you don't have a problem, then the engine check light should not come back on. I had the same problem where a plug wire was melted onto the manifold and the engine misfired and the engine check light came on. I changed out the wire and disconnected the battery. The engine check light no longer comes on. Good luck
