Apparently this is a common problem on older Explorers, the interior drivers door closing handle plastic breaks from years of closing the door. No problem, thinks I, just drive up to a ford dealer and order the part. I expected to pay around $30-$40.
The parts specialist shows me a leetle black dot next to the part number and proceeds to inform me that it is only available with the entire door panel, not seperately.
I say.. OK... how much is the door panel?
Are you ready?
$500.00
After I get up off the floor and leave, I decide to call a used parts guy in West Palm Beach..
He says, no problem, they break all the time and I have them new in the box from an aftermarket company for $37.00.
Homerun.
I just installed it with no problem.
You do need a "dremel" like tool to grind off the old plastic tabs that hold on the old piece and then the new one is held in place with spring "push nuts".
The place is called Wootens Used parts at 561-683-2024 in West Palm Beach.
I am not affiated with them in any way, just wanted to pass this one along.
You guys were right about EBAY. Once I typed in Explorer interion, tons of interion door handles came up from $16-$20 bucks. So my $37 "deal" now seems a bit expensive.
I have a 94 explorer and the interor pull handle is ripped and when i look on ebay for it, there is only electric ones, mine isnt...if anyone could help me on this that would be appreicted..lol
