I'd stay away from the chambered mufflers like Flowmaster. They sound too tinny for my ear. I like a low throaty sound. I know you have a bad taste for Cheery Bombs right now but the longer the Cherry bomb the quieter they are. They have zillions of different lengths. And cheap.

I stopped by the local muffler shop and that guy's opinion was that the glass packs are quieter than mufflers and that mine sound bad cuz the glass is probably gone and I'm most likely on straight pipes.

Anyone agree with this guy? I'll get glass packs if they're quiet.

What about a regular ole stock muffler? Anything wrong with one of those?

Glasspacks can be quiet. Get the longest ones you can find. Run the pipes out under the back bumper.

Nothing "wrong" with normal mufflers, except they are bad for performance use.

how's a glasspack with a 20 inch resonator body length? Is that long enough?

20 would be ok, but there are longer ones available. Get the longest you can find.

If you have enough room under the truck, just get some turbo mufflers from your local parts store and run tailpipes. Still has a nice rumble to it, but much quieter than the short glass packs. I just finished installing Summit's house brand mufflers and exhaust kit on my Uncle's 65 El Camino with tailpipes all the way out the back bumper. In the car is nice and quiet, but standing behind it is nice and throaty. Doesn't have the glass pack cackle either, which is one exhaust note I can't stand. Summit is selling their turbo mufflers for just under $30 a piece, I imagine it's be about the same price at your local parts store for whatever brand turbo muffler they sell.
I ran some Thrush turbos with tailpipes exiting just in front of the rear tires and it sounded good and not loud enough to irritate the neighbors.

This is what AZ carries.

Walker SoundFit/Muffler 11016 at AutoZone.com

How do you know if it is a turbo muffler.

Advanced Auto has this:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/t...983%7CL3*15335

those are the two shops I drive by on a daily basis.

Turbo mufflers are very clearly sold as turbo mufflers. If the box doesn't say turbo muffler, it's not a turbo.

I can't say for sure on the walker muffler, but the one you posted from advance is the same muffler I ran and sounded good.

Honestly I don't know the part number but I'm sure thrush turbos should all sound the same. I got mine at O'Reilly and was 2.5" offset in and out. But mine were thrush turbo mufflers just like you posted.

Ah. My brother worked for O'Reilly so I just told him the inlet/outlet size and location I wanted. I guess I assumed they were all the same internally. When you searched, did they have different case sizes or just different inlet/outlet configurations?

It looks like all but one are the 14" case length, which I'm positive I had. You just have to choose inlet/outlet configuration and if you want natural or aluminized finish. My search was for 2.5" diameter inlet and outlet, but I believe you can get 2.25" also if that's what you already have.

Edit, I also see they offer the Thrush Hush Super Turbo mufflers, I did not have those. Just the regular turbos.

I knew when I read thru the posts in this thread...that someone would assume their truck came with factory installed dual exhausts. Not so, no such thing, see parts catalog pics.

No F100/250/350 came with dual exhausts. No F150 prior to 1993 came with dual exhausts.

The only Ford trucks to come with dual exhausts were the F150 SVT Lightning models that were introduced in 1993. Both tail pipes exited out the right (passenger) side.
