I was a Marine Corps brat. I wanted to join but was turned down due to health problems. And at age 18 that was hard to accept. During my lifetime my Dad was stationed at 29 Palms MCB in California. Then in Wichita Falls, Texas for recruiting duty. Then back to 29 Palms. After that he taught ROTC classes at Duke University in Durham, NC. We went back to 29 Palms again where he later retired as the Base Sgt. Major after 30 years as a full time Marine. He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. My Dad didn't talk about his job much and he died when I was 17. But my Mom told me that he fought on Iwo Jima and his younger brother died there. But they didn't know they were both on the island at the same time. My Mom also told me that he was in the reserves after WWII and worked as a cop in a small town in his home state of West Virginia. Not much went on there and he got bored, so he went back into the Marines. Just wanted to give my Dad props.
Oh, I know he did his basic training at Perris Island, South Carolina and he was a Drill Instructor there later on. But I don't know all the places he was stationed before I was born and up to age 3.
