Ok, here's the deal. My truck was shifting fine, drove around the neighborhood a few times, then I decided to pressure wash the engine and what I could reach on the trans from under the hood. Well, after I did that, I did not move the truck from the driveway for a few weeks. Now, I can't change gears. When the truck is off, I can shift through all the gears with no problem, but when it's running, I can't go from neutral to any gear or from gear to gear. I can start the truck in gear, and off I go (not too fast though, I can only get 1st and reverse). Any ideas?
You might have gotten some water in the bellhousing and now the pressure plate and/or flywheel have some surface rust on 'em. The clutch won't let loose and you can't shift gears because the tranny input is still turning even when you push the clutch pedal in. Course, you might have knocked something loose on the clutch linkage too.
Check the clutch linkage first and make sure the rod is in the fork lever and the lever is working back and forth when you push the clutch pedal in.
If it's the rust problem, you might be able to break it loose by starting it up in gear (as you have been doing) and then pushing the clutch in while applying the brakes. If you only have a little surface rust, it will wear off pretty quick and you might be all set. The safest way, though, would be to pull the pressure plate assembly and clutch disk. Then clean things up before putting it back together.
