Did our trucks use a air intake "box" that mounts over of the passenger side and connected to the air cleaner with a flex hose? I found the picture below online.

Yeah, some had a plastic plenum mounted to core support on the right side between the inner fender and radiator. Trucks without the plenum received a blank-off plate secured by a 3/8-inch body screw. My 73 wasn't equipped with a plenum so I sourced the blank-off plate from the JY for $4.
Yer pic is too dark and small for me to make heads or tails from what yer attempting to illustrate.
The larger steel 460 air cleaner will fit 2 barrel carbs, however like I already mentioned the crankcase breather is on the front driverside when compared with the aluminum housings which are on the back passenger side. You just have to switch PCV and breather locations. I believe some older or other engines used the steel housing too-maybe 390s or 360s. The older snorkels have a temperature sensing device with a spring that keeps the snorkel door closed until it is heated up and they tend to get seized shut and require really high temps to open. You could gut the internals. I took my older snorkel off and swapped it for a newer style snorkel off an 80s 460 air cleaner. The newer snorkels have a vacuum door that is normally open when no vacuum is applied.
I control mine off a coolant temp vacuum switch on the thermostat housing. Originally they open based on an air cleaner temp switch but I can't find replacements and my original air cleaner switch had a bad vacuum leak.
Before with the 351m and original aluminum cleaner.
After 460 swap.
Here is the air cleaner with the original snorkel.
Here is the temp sensing device inside.
Here it is on the donor rig before I blasted and painted it.
I shore aint gonna use them but someone might want one for a "original" truck.
I still need to source the flex plastic, got any of those in good shape laying around? Not so much interested in keeping it original but I prefer it over the other options.
