how close have you cut it on the gas game
Wondering how close others have come playing the gas game in their truck. I have a 2015 F250 CC 6.2, and the last few times I've filled up. The computer says I have 30ish miles left. But it only holds 28ish gallons.
I know it's suppose to have a 35 gallon tank.
I had an old 1992 F150 super cab that had dual tanks. And when it hit E, I had another 50 miles, or so.
Just wondering if it is leaving me approximately 4 unaccounted for from the computer.

I know I can go about 50 miles past the 0 miles to Empty message. I've found that there's about 5 gallons left usually when it says 0.
I once got stuck in a construction zone for close to 50 miles and had no choice. When I stopped I put about 35.5 gallons in. I could tell there was nothing left because it would bog down and start to die when I accelerated and all the fuel moved away from the pump.
I've never let it get that low since. There have been a few times where I was running late for work and had to go with very little. Those times I usually put about 30-32 gallons in.

Nearly ran my old Jeep out of gas once when I was 16. It was to the point the engine stumbled and nearly died whenever I hit the brakes. Never since then have I come that close.
I get aggravated with my wife when she lets it get close to E. It can be widely variable when the low fuel light comes on, my last two Super Duties were diesel and I sure as heck wasn't going to risk a $10,000 repair to find out.

I starting thinking something was wrong because I'd fill it up reading between half & a quarter and it would only take 15 gallons. So I ran it down to maybe 15 miles left, with the gauge being at the E. The most I could fit in the tank was 28 gallons. Now I know you can never fill a tank to the actual volume listed, but 7 gallons is a bit much to be 'missing'. That's another hour you could be able to go before stopping..
The question you have to ask is.. is the gauge off, or is the tank not really 35 'useable' gallons? Never had this issue with any previous Ford I've owned and I'll never run it below 1/4 again.. just not worth finding out to me, but I'd still like to know.
