62 F100 Wrongbed
Hey all. I just picked up a 62 F100 Wrongbed w/ a 292. It has an 8 lug rear w/ a 4 speed in it. Was wondering if anyone had seen such a thing or why that would be like that? For the most part its pretty original. Going to need a carb adjustment and that should be it. Any info / recommendations are always welcomed. Thank you.

Welcome to FTE
Are you sure it's an F100?
"Wrong" beds: 1961/65 F100/250 4WD / 1961/66 F350 / 1962/63 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F250 4WD
F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle / F250's have 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle.
1961/62: Warranty Plate located on the inside of the glove box door, has the VIN stamped on it.
If the first 3 digits of the VIN are: F10 = F100 2WD .. If F25 = F250 2WD

Yup its a F100. Ran the vin already and it comes back F100 from the California plant. The 8 lug rear is the only thing that doesn't seem normal with it.

It's not original, so...it was swapped in by a previous owner.

Yea. Here in the near future I'm going to swap it for a original 5 lug rear. I would 3.08's would be alright with having the 4 speed in it?

No 3.08 gears available with 9 inch. 1965/72 F100 9" common ratios with M/T: 3.50 - 3.70 - 3.89 - 4.11.

And that 65 rear end should have the same distance for the leaf springs?

1961/67 is the same, 1968/72's are a bit wider, as they have 11" x 2 1/4" rear brakes, but will also work.
Beginning in 1973, Ford increased the width of the inner frame rails behind the cab from 33 1/2" to 37 1/2."

Thanks for all the info. Think I have what I need to get started atleast. I'll have to do a little research and figure out how to upload pictures to this deal. I'm new to the forum world.
