emission evap DISK name please
I think I know which PART is the problem but I do not know what it is called to get another one.
From the one barrel carb bowl vent tube there is a 3" hose to an inline solenoid. Then 3" more to a plastic inline DISK. I believe that hose then goes on down to the charcoal canister. That whole hose assembly uses perhaps 3/8" large vacuum hoses.
The DISK is about 1 1/4" in diameter and 1/2" thick with large diameter hose nipples.
I found the DISK fallen apart one day; both halves still hanging on its respective hose. I snapped the halves back together but perhaps its guts had fallen out so it has none now.
What is that DISK called?

You helped me some years ago which makes you a repeat offender and I am very glad you are a part of this forum.
I have been rooting around on this problem and found a fellow that described this disk, 9E589 as a temperature actuated check valve, something like that. I assume the value opens up when it is hot under the hood. This makes me believe that both 9E589 and the solenoid must be "open" for the gas fumes to be collected off the carburetor. So I have a hunch the solenoid is at least open when the engine is off. I don't have anyway to confirm that to be true but I believed the guy.

1) part 9E589 that I have been calling the DISK can cause a problem but NOT an emission evap test failure.
I watched the test being conducted today and briefly spoke with the emissions tech. He CLAMPED the only other hose attached to the canister "9D653". He removed my gas cap and there attached and started his test equipment that included a bottle of inert gas.
So you see, the test is confined to the gas tank and any hoses or seals that would allow vapors to exit the tank which would necessarily include the gas line headed off to the fuel pump. The only approved vapor exit is the vapor canister "9D653".
2) I had to get my so called DISK "9E589" from the salvage yard.
comparing: It was hard to blow air through the "salvaged part" that I am using now. After installing salvaged DISK, the idle dropped so low the engine barely ran. I had to give the idle stop screw at least two whole turns to eliminate the stumble.
So I learned that large diameter hose vent tube between the canister and the carburetor dumps out below the throttle plate. It is an intentional vacuum leak to suck fumes FROM the canister "9D653". So I had a large vacuum leak even though my in-dash vacuum gauge showed a healthy vacuum.
This DISK replacement translated into a more responsive low RPM throttle so I am glad I replaced it though I thought I was fixing another problem.
