Remove Rear Passenger Door

I have seen a number of threads about removing the interior door panel but I have an issue where I need to remove the entire door. The door latch mechanism is jammed. The door cannot be opened from the inside or the outside. Not related to the actuator or the child safety lock. The problem is that the latch won't disengage from the "bar" it clamps onto.

I am wondering if there is any way to unbolt the hinge side of the door when I can't get the door open. Hoping that when I do this I may be able to get enough play on the latch side that I can break the latch free from the "bar".

I hope this makes sense but currently I have a truck where the rear passenger door cannot be used. It is a bit frustrating.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

-Eric

I don't think that's possible, I'd say your best bet is to remove the interior door panel and try to open the latch from there. It's a tight squeeze, but something must be able to make it release..

Nope, there is no way to back the bolts out and even if there was the length of the bolts would prevent them from turning out much at all. Plus, the latch hooks on to the strike, so you would still have to undo the latch in order to get it released from the strike.

That could be a simple matter of the linkage having become disconnected.

I have already removed the inside door panel and can get to all the linkage inside the door and it all moves freely and seems to be okay but I cannot get the latch to disengage from the strike (thanks for the proper term alloro).

So what I am hearing is that I will forever have a truck without a rear passenger door that opens. Bummer.

Remove the door panel, look inside the door and study the mechanism. More than likely you can release it with a screwdriver. Worst case you can destroy the case on the actuator and get it to release. I bought my escape with ai inoperable rear passenger door. The po's mechanic "couldnt " get it open. Took me about 30 mins.

I would not settle for such a condition. Do like 83sd said and get into the door and demolish the latch. Once you get it to release and the door opens the latch can be replaced. In fact you might want to hit up local junkyards and have one handy before ripping into the existing one so you can swap it out right away.
