so I recently stumbled upon a beautiful centurion 4 door bronco for $1200 that is missing the engine, the body/frame has no rust . it is based off an f150 (pictures were 5 lug wheels) so would these only have the 351? how hard would it be to replace. I'm also curious as to the weight of it because I would have to tow it 80 or so miles in a 1996 4.9 e4od 3.09 f150, would that be fine.
Awesome find. 4 door broncos are definitely unique truck and tend to capture the attention of those who know what they are. If you're in a smog controlled area, you'd have to install an engine from the same year or newer. You didnt mention a year but I assume its fuel injected. They're easy to come by. Check craigslist and you might find one already pulled for a few hundred bucks. As for the weight, I would estimate it to weigh around 6,000lbs. Check your rated tow capacity, a car carrier and bronco will probably exceed it.
My knowledge is limited but I would have my father with me who has done things like this before. This is basically my dream truck and I'm determined to make it happen.
Sounds like a fun project those Broncos are rare, I would go for it. Then go to the junkyard and pull a decent 302 or 351 with all associated wires, sensors, etc. around here you can grab one for about 250-400 bucks
so it seems that this will happen so I started looking for engines and found a freshly rebuilt 1991 351, would I have to worry about compatibility? how hard would it be to put in a 302. If I do get it tomorrow I will be sure to post pictures.
