bad blow by?
Early 99 7.3. Runs ok has a slight miss at idle however every injector when unhooked makes a change. Has white and blue smoke From the exhaust. Has enough blow by to blow the oil cap off as your unscrewing it. My question is, I know engine restore is bad for these trucks but I can't afford to rebuild the engine. If I run the restore and then clean the IRP once the truck dies is this going to mess anything else up. Do you think it will by me a few months to save up for a rebuild

What does the fuel filter look like? Is it black?
Additives of any type is very hard on these motors.
How many miles are on your truck?
Have any modifications been done to it?
What kind of oil are you using now? What oil weight?

So you know where I was going with that question. The new injectors and o-rings should have eliminated that as a possibility. The thing with adding stuff to the oil is that it may cause it to foam up in the HPOP system. The original Lucas engine additive did that. They do make one specifically for Powerstrokes, but I have not heard anything good or bad about it.

Yeah. I was going to run a compression test cause I suspect #7 is low as that injector makes the least difference in the idle. However I broke the adapter I built to reach the glow plug hole so I need to replace it before I can do that.

Ok well I did it. Added the restore. Truck still running, smoke is almost completely gone. Obviously it still needs a rebuild but at least now when I'm driving down the road I can see behind me instead of just a cloud. Thanks for the replies
