Came up on a kid sitting along side of the road today. Said he didn't have enough power to put the hill had a stock trailer and 2 horses in it. So I hooked up my Infinity and it started right up and everything looked good but the IPRDC was only about 7% with icp about 480. What would cause that?
Ran the KOER and had a exhaust pressure circuit high but the ebpv was open. Cylinder contribution showed 2 and 6 had a fault. And I forgot to run a buzz test. Was on my way to work and he already had someone coming g to get him.
He replaced his injectors with used ones that had a 50k warenty but only torqued them to 100. I told him to check if one had come loose and to torque them to 130in/lbs and to check the UVCH because it had a miss but no tick.
Anyway I was wondering about the low IPRD. I'll probably never see him again but may run into that problem sometime down the road.
was the 7% and 480 at warm idle? There are 2 7.3L's I have seen with 6-9% duty cycle at idle, no worries. Did it happen to be a manual tranny?
Yes it was warm, and yes it was a manual. I didn't ask what year. I've only been messing with these trucks for about 2 years or so, Only had my infinity hooked up to about 5 or 6 different trucks and hadn't seen that before. wanted to make sure it wasn't something I needed to look out for.
Thanks.
As I have been warned by experts, we are better off sticking with 120 in/lbs unless a problem arises. I have been very unlucky in this regard, so I have been forced to use 130 in/lbs... but I may be an anomaly.
Low IPR usually indicates an ICP sensor going out. I'd look hard at the ICP readings compared to IPR during a WOT test to see if it makes sense - IPR should peak at about 40% on a stock truck.
Chris, my 7.3 is one of those oddballs sitting at good ICP and low IPR DC. Even in stock mode though mine will pull a hill with ~14K behind it in 5th (direct drive) without much of a problem at all.
It would be interesting to see what is going on with that guys truck, but like you said, you'll probably never see him again.
