Everyone that has posted has a newer super duty, as do I. Mine is a 2015 and I wondered as well why the fan makes so much noise when the motor is cold? The part I also don’t understand is the fans in our trucks is a mechanical fan, so how can it make more noise at any other given time since it just runs off the belt unlike an electric fan most new vehicles have.

Could be testing the fan by running at startup. Would be nice if you found out your fan doesn't work a couple miles from home rather than climbing the largest hill in the area? . The semi's I used to drive would kick the fan on in the morning as well so I never really thought much of it. They are air operated clutches though.
I was told it was viscosity that makes that happen. Not sure it's the same for the electric clutch, but from what I can read it is: Fan Clutch Diagnosis - Engine Cooling System
