Ok I got this friend that decided that it would be cool to race someone on one of the local highways here... Well they're going down the highway hitting 100 in a 55 and guess what happens next. They get caught by the cops, so the cop pulls them over and gets a hold of the parents of the guy my friend was racing, so he goes home only to get chewed out by his parents, but back to the story, the cop couldnt get a hold of my friends parents so he takes him to the local jail and keeps him in a holding cell till the cop gets a hold of his parents.. So his mom comes and gets him.... A few weeks later the guy he was racing had to go to court over the thing, it was so serious that they're making it go to a higher court. As for my friend his punishment, his parents tell him he cant drive for 6 months. Well that didnt happen. It lasted for about 2 weeks, and he was out on the road again, he started driving w/out his parents knowing, and once they did find out THEY DIDNT CARE! i cant believe this, he's a harm to people when hes on the road and his parents cant figure that out. Does this seem right to you?
Hey there…I agree it doesn’t seem right I don’t think that bad drivers should be allowed on the road but what can we do, they just keep handing out licenses like they were toilet paper…some parents just don’t care what their kids to…the only thing I can advise you to do is not to be in the car with him…and recommend to your friends not to drive with him if its that bad…but I suppose if you wanted to get gutsy you could talk to his parents and see what happens but that might cause problems with your friend, but the choice is up to you…it would be horrible to see him get killed and know that you did nothing to try and prevent it and even worse if he killed or hurt someone else…but ultimately the choice is completely yours…but don’t put to much pressure on your self to do something because there are always some things that we can’t do anything about
Your "friend" is lucky that he didn't kill someone. He's also lucky that he doesn't live in North Carolina. If you get caught racing here it is automatic revocation of your license. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. This is more than just being a "bad" driver. It's about maturity and responsibility. Obviously, your friend is immature; His actions verify that. Speaking of responsibility, if your friend is under the age of majority and/or he's driving his parents car and he wrecks, the person he hits can sue the pants off of his parents. It is commonplace for accident awards to reach in the MILLIONS of dollars. If your freind wants to race, then he needs to take it to a track, rather than endangering innocent people.
yea he was in his parents car.... he would of been screwed if he did wreck it. Also what I think is somewhat funny is he thinks hes got this awsome layer that will get him out of this mess. The moron figure it out that if the layer does get him out of it then hes got a HUGE bill to pay to the layer......
From my side as a parent of 4 sons, when they crossed me up. I would pull the spark plug wires off their vehicle and take with me. If it went over that I would pull the distributor. Pre computer vehicles. Hardest thing I ever tried to get thru to them was if you are under 18 and you screw up I have to pay the bill. They may do the time, but Dad pays the damages. So it never bothered me to disable their ride.

I believe this is the parents punishment of taking the driving priveleges away. Therefore what good would that do.
However, if he has to go to court, then there is a good chance he could get his license suspended. If they are really inclined, the DA, they could actually go for wreckless/careless driving charges, and then things suddenly get a little more serious.
careless is a joke at least here in Oregon. I've had one and it's just like a speeding ticket. Reckless is a much more serious offense like street racing. Same category. Up to 1 year in jail and $10,000 fine I think. He's right though. If he has a good lawyer he will get it reduced to careless and pay a small fine and walk. The lawyer bill for that will be about $500 max unless he has to go to trial (The DA won't plea bargain) then it could be into the $1500-$2000 range or more.
By higher court do you mean he has to go before the judge? Some places for traffic infractions you can have it settled by their administrator's but they won't do that with misdemeanors. Reckless is a class A misdemeanor and so is speed racing. These can't be handled by clerks.
