Indy, here's a thought. The only parts of my truck that are painted, not primered, are the parts that have wiring attached to them. I didn't want to paint around wires, and I didn't want to remove the wiring to paint. I painted the firewall, inner fenders and grill. When I paint, anything wired stays put.

On my 52 I mounted the fuse box under the dash and you can see the vent handle on the right.
I put the connections on the front harness to ease taking the front clip off. The connections are from Del City and are heat shrink and waterproof. It is amazed with the differences in the Del City terminals from the auto parts store terminals
All of my harness attachment is with the stainless rubber insulated line clips.
Same as Rhopper, paint the firewall & interior first if you are ever going to paint it.
