This is the truck my Grandfather's bought new. He past it down to my father and he used it as a daily driver for many years. He part it about 12 years ago when the old 351 windsor started going out. His plan was to rebuild the truck but that never happened. Now its my turn. Im active duty army so i really only get to work on her on the weekends. Luckily its not to far of a drive. My dad is helping with the rebuild and is good with these older vehicles. I however am not. This will be my first time with a rebuild of this magnitude. I will keep pictures and updates posted as often as possible. I look forward to your more experienced opinions and ideas. Thanks in advance.
I have my new engine but I need to clean the gas tank and maybe fuel lines. What is the best way to go about this? The fuel tank had the gas removed , all but what little was in the bottom of the tank. There seems to be some crystallized gas and maybe some rust. What is the best way to clean and restore the tank or should I just buy a new one?

To answer your question it depends. Have you considered the Mustang gas tank mod?
Very impressed that you caught that. Yes it is a swap from a 79. The 68s had a narrower rear end. My Grandfather did that many years ago, i would say at least 20-30 years or so.
X2 On your signature. Thank you for your service, always be safe.
The speech where I heard your signature line was the best in the movie
"A few good men" 1 minute 15 seconds into clip.

Thanks JEFFFAFA, I have decided to go with the mustang gas tank swap. I ordered a 22 gallon 70 model tank. It should be in this weekend and I will post pictures when the install is complete.
Welcome to FTE man, and thank you for your service!
Good on you for reviving grandpa's truck, it'll be a treat, I guarantee it
What are your plans for the project?
I am doing a complete restore. Starting with the frame and engine. I decided to go with a 351w because thats what my dad had in it when it still ran. I already have the engine and I am slowly putting it together as I have time. I hope to have the engine installed this weekend. With any luck she will be drive able as well. Paint and interior will most likely have to wait until next year.
You can order new tanks for these, places like National Parts Depot has them. Or, if you pull out the pickup and sending unit, you can get the boiled out, at a radiator shop. They can also pressure test them for leaks.
