just purchased a 2000 f250 crewcab w/ v-10 auto 4:30 rear-end. I am very disapointed with power having just sold my 93 f-250 w/7.5 5-speed 4:11 rear end. My old truck would waste this pos. One thing I can't understand is the endless braging on the v-10. I tow lots of trailers and start at 6000 ft traveling to 10,000 ft in a matter of 20 miles. 460 would make this run effortless while the v-10 struggles to pull its own weight. Why peak power at 4200 ?sucks after driveing 460 that makes all its power at 2500 rpm. I have a k&n filter on v-10 and thats all. Any one swaped a 7.5 inj. into a new superduty. I am thinking of a chip and exhuast on v-10. One shop says single 4" the other says dual 3" any suggestions. what is the best chip. possibly need the six speed? By the way I hate desiels. I would rather get 2mpg than own a desiel pickup
Hmmm....I had a 1991 SC F-250 with a 460, auto, and 4.10 rear. My 2000 V-10, auto, 4.30 would pull the same load with better mpg's and more power. Yes, you will need to run the V-10 in the 2400 - 3500 RPM range, but with overhead cams it's not a problem. As for mods, I would do a K&n FIKP and relace the muffler only with a good 3" in and 3" out. The stock tail pipe is 3" with only a slight dipple, not enough to justify replacing it.

Since you've called my truck a POS, all I can say is it isn't to bright to buy a truck without test driving it and looking at the numbers.

It's illegal in most, if not all, areas to put an engine that predates the manufacturing date of the vehicle.
I am thinking of a chip and exhuast on v-10.
The chip will force you to burn premium gas. Not to pleasent of an endevour with a low milage vehicle. The exhaust will sound nice but by itself will do little to nothing.
One shop says single 4" the other says dual 3" any suggestions. what is the best chip.
Unless you like to hear the engine rumble and really want to burn premium gas for a little gain, leave it stock.
possibly need the six speed?
Putting your POS comment aside, the difference you're noticing is very likely between the manual and auto tranny. If you have the money, the standard will certianly make a difference.

Nice touch. Now all you need to do is insult those driving the 5.4 and you'll have covered all the Superduty drivers. Congrats! By the way, desiel is spelled D - I - E - S - E - L.

You'll notice it was his first and only post on this forum and he hasn't created a user gallery. Troll?
There are many of us here who have indeed owned both the 460 and now the V10 415....notice it is a 415?
Could it be your 460 was tuned for altitude and your 415 isn't?
Could it be that your 93 460 weighed damn near 2000lbs less than your 2000 460?
Might you be trying to make your old/new truck work too hard?
Is the 2000 V10 allready whooped by a previous owner who flogged the crap out of it and smoked the trans?
Or are you afraid to run it up to 4800rpm and walk all over that puny hill you call a mountain?
Hell I don't know, but I do know that my bone stock signature truck walks up 11,000 foot passes easily and usually has me grinning ear to ear as I pass old 460s, and new Chevy/Dodge RVers....
Oh Yes, before I forget, my 460 NEVER got better than 10mpg and usually about 8...hell yes it was fast! BUT... this truck is heavier, has a smaller engine, and gets 12.5 consistantly at high speed, or up to 14.7 if I back off to 65-70mph.

TROLL, did someone say troll??
I think troll,
I have had my truck for a few years with over 100k miles and I still have that huge smile!!!!!!! everytime I drive her..
I have had all the fords inline 6, 302,351,460,7.3 turbo,
and I am most happy with my V-10 Super Duty.
Maybe that v-10 needs a check up might be runing on 8 instead of 10?????
Didn,t no you guys were so senitive. Called my truck a pos not yours. Mine obviously doesn,t run as good as yours. Mine only gets 10mpg on a good day. Dealer says there is nothing wrong with truck. no codes ect. just wanted suggestions. I will still say my 460 ran better than most. as for the diesel mistake, I can spell I just can't type. Type with my head down.

I still wouldn't be surprised if most of the difference you're experiencing has to do with the transmissions. The auto takes a surprising amount out of an engine. Eitherway, I hope you find a way to get the performance up where you need it. The chips do work, it's just that you'll need to run premium gas. The diesel guys are really lucky when it comes to chips. Thay can see big gains using an aftermarket chip without having to burn a premium fuel at a premium price.
Sorry to have ripped on you so hard earlier. I took your post the wrong way.
I just got home from vacation and I'm really happy with the performance of my V-10. I have a 1999 ford f-250 sc 4x4 373 auto trans, its chipped and the muffler was changed with a magna flow and it exits out in front of the rear tires, K&N gen II system, power aide spacer, 285 tires, I've added a trans cooler, sonnax valve, tricumulator springs and gauges. I pull a trailer that has gmvw of 10,800 lb. My brother has a 1993 f-350 4x4 460 410 auto he has it chipped 4inch exhaust 285 tires power aide spacer K&N system. He pulls a trailer with a gmvw of 9500lb and I could leave him on any hill and at the pump I would average getting about 5 gallons less on fill up. I never did the math on gas millage I don't think I want to know!!!! He was really impressed I think he's considering a new truck. A SD!!!
Vacation was from Utah to South Dakota, lots of hills I feel it was a good test for both trucks They both performed well!!
My 2 cents
