2003 - 35,000
2004 - 30,000
2005 - 20,000
Total - 235,000 units
The first part of the first year was good for initial sales but dropped off during the latter part of the sales year. Ford decreased production for the second year due to almost a three month surplus of excursions on the lots compared to a normal one month surplus. Sales declined and so did production for every year after that. Until the final year, they produced only 20,000 excursions. And of those 20,000 most were pushed down to Mexico and were sold until the end of 2006. So US sales ended in 2005, but there were still enough to market and sale for another year in Mexico. So it is possible to own a 2006 excursion but it would have been a Mexican import version.
One of the mian reasons driving the continued production of the excursion was the high profit margin on them. Ford could pocket around $15,000 per vehicle. Unforunately, the rising gas prices and cost for materials forced them to move on to revamping the Super Duty pick up line and creating the Expedition EL to compete with the surburban.
Again, this information was compiled from an assortment of web articles and most of them agreed on the numbers produced for the years made.

In the same way a VW Beetle was still produced, sold and available in Mexico after 1979. Heck I can buy a 2014 Jaguar E-Type (allegedly).
And still, what would the VIN indicate as the MY in a so-called 2006 Excursion?

Yes, and I'm quite sure I have the last chalice of Christ (Holy Grail) in my kitchen.
Let me try to understand your "thinking" for a minute. The Ford Excursions that were sent down to Mexico sold as 2006 MY Ford Excursions were not really Ford Excursions? If they weren't Ford Excursions what where they?
Oh, I'm sure you'd never believe this either but there were Ford Super Duty's manufactured in early 1998 that were sold as 1999 Models. Are they really 1998's or 1999's? I'd say they are 1999's. Crazy isn't it??? Did you also know that there were Ford Excursions manufactured and sold in 1999 as 2000 models? Crazy again ah?
Not sure what else can be said here... Next time your in doubt try the google search button it may actually surprise you. LOL!
Excursion - King of SUVs
2000 - 2005 Ford Excursion

Calendar Year Total sales
1999 18,315
2000 50,786
2001 34,710
2002 29,042
2003 26,259
2004 20,010
2005 16,283
So you are denying the fact that Ford sent the last run of Excursion down to Mexico to be sold as 2006 models??? Highly doubt you would find sales data in 05 or 06 for 2006 Excursions sold in Mexico. My guess is when Ford delivered the remaining Excursions to Mexico they were counted as 2005 sales only way to explain the sales numbers. Over on the Excursion Club FB page you hear of 06 X's from time to time in Mexico.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
There were no updates, no changes, no revisions, none of the model year updates that are inherent to industry. Am I denying they got sold in Mexico? No. But they are quite literally nothing more than left overs that were stagnant in the American market and shipped elsewhere for sale. Mexico also has less stringent rules on vehicle registration requirements as compared to the States. You can buy a 2012 MY and it actually has to be registered as a 2011 based off production date. Vice versa also applies, of course. It doesn't matter what the culture or enthusiast group says, law is law...

Although the 2006 Excursion was most likely carry over 2005 Excursion the 2006 Excursion still exists, only sold in Mexico of course (beating that dead horse again). These would have had the most recent updates to the 6.0 motor as well as they are the last Excursions to roll off the assembly line. It would be interesting to see who has the oldest 2005 MY X build date here. Going to ask on the FB page.
With other countries having different regulations on what qualifies as a model year, the Excursion was sold in Mexico as such. That's why you see ZERO 2006 Excursions native to America that were sold in the otherwise qualifying third quarter of the sale year. Had the line continued into 2006, you would see third and fourth quarter 2005's sold as 2006's, but there aren't any here in America that were sold under the red, white, and blue that qualify.
The same rulings do NOT apply to continuing production such as the Super Duty trucks. Again, continuing production vs final run.
Yes, show me a VIN with a "6" as the tenth digit that is not a CABT.
Dear sir, you are chasing unicorns that fart rainbows believing everything you read on the interwebs.
The VIN is what determines the MY not when it was built - shipped - sold.
Not only is this an old thread that got revived, but it's going off on a tangent that is stupid as hell.
It's common knowledge there are 2005 model year Excursion that were sold in Mexico. It doesn't matter what Mexico has designated them. As indicated by others previously, they are 2005 MY Excursions, period.
