Anyone on the forum have any diffuculty with the rear window wiper? Wife's 98 Explorer wiper stopped working, could it be a fuse, or has the motor gone bad?
I had this happen while it was still under warranty. On my paperwork it says they replaced the rear wiper motor for SSM 11849. I don't know what the SSM 11849 means.
Had the same problem with my 2000 XLT . Motor replaced three times under warranty. Did happen to see one of the motors pulled apart and the large fiber or nylon gear was warped and used to jam the motor up. Solved the problem, I got a new explorer 2003 model, just kidding. But I think there is too much weight hanging on the arm. In my opinion it maybe a design problem.
Some Expedition folks stated that this was a common problem and that a temporary fix was to bang on the tailgate. Banged away this morning with my closed fist, lo and behold, the wiper is now working once again. Going to see how long it works.
