Hey there i have a 2000 Expy 5.4 4x4 and the running board lights went out...........
i took them apart and found the bulbs to be bad .
Does anyone know if you can put colored bulbs in there?
where can you get them?
i am a Fireman and i want to put Red bulbs in there any ideas
where can I get me some of those lights you got? I've been looking for something like that.
Some platinum turn signal bulbs would be pretty cool as well.

My local Auto Parts guy sells them for $9 a pair. PIAA makes them as well, so most major aftermarket retailers should have them. Just look for a 194 style bulb in whatever color you fancy.
REDVET - those are them, but to install them, you just have to back out 1 screw underneath the running board (Per bulb), and twist the base to release it. Some of my bulb sockets had started to corrode, so I cleaned them out with some contact cleaner, then used some white lithium grease on the base of the new bulb. Good Luck !!!

The turn signal bulbs are 3156 style, amber. (OEM) If you have converted to the clear side marker lenses (As I did), I would not reccomend using clear bulbs. I got a ticket for using the clear bulbs in the clear housing. Amber bulbs in a clear housing are OK, as well as clear bulbs in an amber housing. Maybe this is just a NYC thing, as our lovely mayor has gone ticket-crazy trying to raise $$$. Check out your local DOT laws. Most major aftermarket retailers sell colored 3156 bulbs, as well as 3157 bulbs for the brake lights.

Thanks for the reply,Rtp.
I gave it a quick look and it seemed losening the 4 nuts would bring the cover down to replace the bulb.
It's raining ior I would check again.
Where would that one screw be that has to be backed out?
Look underneath the running board, directly under the bulb housing. There is a plastic guard, about 6" long, with a hole in it direcly under the bulb socket. Remove 1 of the 2 screws that hold it in place, and you can gain access to the bulb socket. Twist the socket 1/4 of a turn, and pull down gently. The socket will pop out of the lamp housing, and the bulb pulls right out. Be carfeful removing the bulb, it may have corroded in place, and may require a little finesse to get it out. Try not to use any metal tool to pry the bulb out, as this may short the circuit, blowing the fuse.

Great!
Will give it a try soon.
I'll try Pep Boys or Strauss stores for the 194 bulbs.
Platinum are considered the brite white bulbs I assume.
Tough finding brite whites or platinum bulbs
Went AutoZone and R&S Strauss. No good.
Ordered PIAA platinum online.
The cheapest place I found them in a quick search online was at believe it or not The Tire Rack.
194 for PIAA is 168 if anyone is interested in picking up PIAA's.
Not cheap.$15 a pair +$8 2 day FEDEX shipping.
