Not sure if that is the problem. My F350 idles fine but every 10-15 seconds it mis fires. When asking it to go up hill it sputters and seems to loose power. It runs fine until asked to work hard.
Not really sure which direction to go in first.
COP's first, plugs next. See if it's prompting a P0300 code as a random misfire or a specific cylinder such as a P0303 for the third cylinder, etc.
Lots of write ups here on coil paks. Rubber boots crack, springs rust out, etc.
Need more information in order to suggest direction for troubleshooting. When were plugs last changed? What trouble codes show on the scan tool ?, etc.
With those symptoms and that code, I would first check carefully for a vacuum leak, including check for an intake manifold leak, and clean the MAF sensor.
Need more information in order to suggest direction for troubleshooting!
Really, that shouldn't matter. The 6.8 is just a 5.4 on steroids, with two additional cylinders added. Same COP's.
With a P0174 code, you most likely have a vacuum leak and most likely the pcv elbow over the passenger side valve cover area.
Not to hijack, more piggyback/consolidate the info.
My 99 6.8 stared doing the same thing this week. Skips/misses every once in a while at idle, but very pronounced under load. Smooths out as the rpm's go up, but still there. Im not getting any codes though. I thought vac leak too, but a few years ago the referenced hose had a hole in it and the symptoms were different. Im digging in this weekend with plugs and inspections of the coils - I'll post what i find. Maybe it'll help if you don't get yours fixed sooner.
