battery charging relay

I had a brake controller installed in my truck and was told that I needed to get battery charging relays for the truck. Made a couple of phone calls to auto parts stores and can't find any. Anyone know where these relays can be found? Thanks.

To the left of the fuse box under the hood is the relay boxes, you should be able to use a normal 30Amp relay. I'll get a pic if you need one.

I called the local ford dealer and asked for the battery charging relays and he didn't know what they were so I called back to the rv place and she found the number that they get from the ford dealer when they need them. It's the same one you gave me. Thanks

I was afraid to call the ford dealer for fear of getting robbed, but 13.95 ea I guess isn't too bad. I'm still going to the local auto parts store to see if they have it for any less.

You're right about what the relays are for. The pics in the above post show where the relay blocks are located, near the brake fluid reservoir, they'll be covered with a plastic removable cover.

I'd like to jump in here as well: My LATE '99 F350 was "converted" by a Ford dealer under the original owner to CHARGE the TRAILER battery(s) I guess instead of just providing static 12v power....I'm wondering what was actually done?? I pull my car hauler trailer which has its own battery for the interior lights and winch and it would be nice to wire IT up so my trucks charging system would charge THAT battery.

Thanks for the info, this is important for me I'm new to pulling a large camper. I assumed my truck was allready charging my trailer battery. I just installed a trailer brake controller, I need to get these relays now too so I can charge my battery while I drive right?? and a ford dealer can get these for me???

Im getting ready to take the camper and family to Disney World from upstate NY. It will be a two day trip and I want to be prepared... This site has been a world of info getting me ready to make this trip.. Until this trip I have only pulled this trailer about 30 miles a couple times. Thanks to everyone for the help... This site rocks...

Ok I went through my manual and according to it my trailer battery charge relay is #106. I found the fuse and relay box on the pass side floor and checked and that relay is in there. So is it safe to assume my trailer battery is being charged by my truck and Im ok to go????

relays

this is the number that the ford dealer near me uses for the charging relays, FOAB-14B192-AA there's two of them @ $13.95 ea. I bought a 5th wheel trailer and found out about the relays when my front jacks wouldn't work off the battery in the trailer or the truck to raise or lower them.

The rv place I went to had a board with all the trailer lights wired into it including a light that showed that the charger was working. I'm guessing that one of the contacts in your plug at the back of the truck is always hot with the motor running. maybe you could check it with a volt/ohm meter.

You would have 12VDC at the black wire on pin 4 of the 7 way trailer connector.
