Noticed that my charging meter in dash pulsates to the plus side when driving, is this a sign of a problem with the charging system. Just put truck back on road after complete rebuid. Don't notice any problems. Battery was dead from sitting for a couple of months during rebuild. After start up the meter moves to plus side for a while but goes back to middle.
Check for a good clean ground from the battery to the block.. clean and tight, buff the cable and mounting surface clean of all crusty stuff and make them clean and shiny if necessary. The battery may be on its last leg if it went totally bad and may cause field to fluctuate. You can always pull the alternator and have one of the local parts stores test it. Make sure the drive belt is adequately tight.
The guages on those older trucks do get a little flakey in time.
I was going to put another battery in to see if helped. I did charge with a charger. The battery is about six years old and had a snow plow on the truck. That is hard on batteries. Thanks for the feed back.
