I'm thinking about going with leather seats instead of my cloth. I could buy a used lariat set of sets, or have an upholstery shop put on a leather cover set. Anyone done either? What was the cost? Happy with the upgrade? If a leather kit, what brand?
I swapped heated leather seats into my last truck (truck in my sig) I got the leather seats for $450 so cheap I couldn't pass it up and sold the cloth seats out of it for $650. I lucked out on that one but I liked the leather so much better. Especially the heat in the winter. My new truck is an xlt with cloth again and I would really like to swap to leather again. Especially if I can make out like my last one it is an easy swap the hardest part was making the heat work. If I were you I would at least get a price from an upholstery shop and see what they will do it for all the seats I've seen online in the last coue weeks are $$$$.
Before with cloth seats.
After with leather.
And now back to my coolant flush.
Thanks. I got a quote from a local shop. $1200 all in for new leather covers on all seats. Not bad. I wouldn't get heat or power, but the leather would be new, not yucky used from a totaled truck.
I sit did mine this past January. Truck came with cloth, and had a local upholstery shop swap to leather. Used the KatsKin leather, and it's a great quality. They also added front and rear heat to mine. For the leather swap, and heat it was $1700 installed. They did a great job, and would absolutely do it again vs the OE leather.
why not put on some leather covers yourself? i found a katzkin set for my old f150 on ebay for around $350 and it was easy to install after watching a couple youtube videos.
If your gonna do leather in a cloth truck do yourself a favor and go with Katzkin, For many years it was my job and Katzkin was the best. The pic is a bottom replacement I did on my truck, take care with the plastic stuff and get yourself some hog ring pliers and you can do it
Just be mindful of the seat airbags. Good shops know how to work with them, but you would not want to simply cover them up with covers or traditional upholstery techniques.
If you get in and out of your truck more than a few times a day or if it's not low and you drag your hip over the edge when you get in, the leather starts to show wear pretty quickly. That picture is a good example. I avoid leather in trucks. I'd spend the money on a locker or something else fun and interesting.
