i was wondering how to read the a axle id tag? i need to replace a seal in the front of my 1991 F-250 and i'm not sure which axle i have. here is what was on the tag
If it's 4x4 and you need the front axle info, I'm not sure but you can look at the front of the axle, on the right (drivers) side right next to the cover, where there is some webbing. There should be a number cast in the case. This is if it's a Dana which I'm pretty sure it is. You will see something like a 44 or 60. That will indicate a Dana 44 or 60 etc. From the tag number it looks like it is a 4.10 ratio. The bottom number looks like a date code.
If you need the rear axle info I know you can look at the door sticker to see what the 2 digit code is. Steve posted this elswhere Axle code
My axle code is 19 which translates to a 8.8" 3.55 open diff.
i figure it has the 4.10 gearing since the rear tag also has that on it. my truck is like i said a 1991 4x4 F-250 with the 351 and a 5-speed overdrive manual tranny.
anyone know what the "E81A" stands for on the tag?
