I read that in the 70's they might have done this as a repair procedure.
It's worth noting that this rod is for the #1 cylinder in my 360, which only had 60psi compression.
Interesting - someone once told me it happened because when the engine rebuilder put the rods in the acid dip with the bearing shells still in the rods, the copper got plated to the rods. But the "resizing" explanation sounds a lot more plausible
