Rear Leaf Spring Question
Rob
Well we couldn't reach an agreement on the springs but I just found a new listing with a guy parting out a 2007 F250. The VIN number is:
1FTSW21547EA46666
The GVWR is 9400 lbs
The spring codes are : VVCC
I would really like to get this modification done. I am sick of the soft ride.
Will these springs fit?
I would also like to raise this 3-4" overall. Does anyone know the proper combination of leaves to achieve this? I am going to be mounting a stainless 40 gallon tank below for WVO and would like to gain a little ground clearance. My tank is still above the lowest point. Any input would be appreciated.
Should I try and raise the front slightly? What do most people try and dial in for a rake from front to rear?
Should I try and buy the spacer/hanger blocks as well?
I am not sure what he wants for these but I want to be sure these will work before I start emailing him.
Thanks in advance,
Rob
I just installed new F350 Y-code springs last weekend in my 2WD Excursion. The F350 and F250 have the same springs - although various options can effect which spring is actually used. I also have the RAS on the rear which does give a nicer ride and soft lift w/o having to replace the springs.
The springs I ordered from Ford are from a 2004 F350 CrewCab 6L with a front axle rating of 4850 lbs. My stock 2WD Excursion (S-code) had a front axle rating of 4400 lbs. I just spend a few minutes on cars.com searching for F250/F350, crew cab, diesel, rwd with years 2004-2007 and eventually you find a few dealers with pictures of the door sticker with axle ratings and spring codes (along with VIN) but essentially 4800 or 4850 is the best front axle rating I've found. The 2005-2007 4WD Super-Duty front COIL springs will NOT fit!!!
Here is my thread with pictures, it also contains a link to a older thread with tons of info.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...50-y-code.html
The 05+ 2WD springs "should" fit w/o issue, but you won't gain more than 1 inch (depending upon how worn out your springs are). Using coil spring spacers causes issues with the geometry of the front end and doesn't really work (the alignment never gets set right) and even grinding the control arms for a bit more clearance doesn't completely work either.
The only real solution is the 6" Lift for 2WD Excursions. Several folks on FTE have one and it does look real nice. Toreador (our moderator) has a great looking 2WD with 6" lift, reference the referenced threads for pics...
Does anyone else know if they will work or not?
Should I try and get the hangers as well?
Can I mix and match with my current Ex springs( I believe this is a modded C package?)
I plan on eventually using something like Landyot rods so I am unsure if using modded spring packs will work.
Rob
You'll need to remove the overload spring and change the center bolt to a shorter one.
Just looked at my notes, looks like I gained only 5/8 in the rear with the C spring (no modding) and stock block. Sorry for the confusion!

SRW C codes and stock blocks = 5/8"
Modding the springs = 3/4" (based off of two additional leafs and 2 1/8" spacers, C codes already have the 2mm spacers in the other leafs.
F350 blocks are about 30mm increase or 1.25".
Total of 2-5/8" unless your truck is lower than mine was.
Go here for my thread and you can reference your truck to it and do some fuzzy math... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ring-swap.html

my suggestion is get the better spring, swap it, then install an add a leaf. You can be certain of getting the lift you speak of.
Btw, some different add a leaves from different companies give more or less. Just look into that
Good luck

Based on member's mod info and measurements in this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...easurents.html it seems that the ATS C/XL (specially ordered from Junior at ATS), rear springs (C codes with and additional leaf) are supplying 2.75" to 3" of rear lift over stock ride heights.
My rear B codes have the typical mod of the bottom 2 EX leaves and the thicker EX spring pack between leaf spacers. To this I also run the F-350 tapered blocks and 2 sections of the EX slapper traction bar cut down and mounted between the blocks and springs. This setup provides 4.5" to 5" of lift (28.5" from hub center to top center of wheel well arch)over what others are seeing on their stock EXs (23.5" to 24"). I didn't want to go with a commercially available add-a-leaf as I felt that would make the rear springs too stiff. I'm very happy with my results and it feels very good with our high tongue weight TT hitched up.
The old slapper style traction bar from the EX is pretty thick so maybe using just one section of it per side would take you right to 4" above stock (used) ride height.
They were F codes. I modified my rear leafs like WE3ZS did and got a pretty significant lift. see the link below for my measurements out back.
Well the deal fell apart for the C springs.
However-I was at the wrecking yard the other day buying three headrests for the Ex for the third seat as my kids are complaining about no being able to sleep easy on long trips to the cottage( I will post pics when I start on this project) and I saw a F350 extended cab 6.0 PSD that had just come in. The place was closing ut I managed to get a photo of the VIN and spring codes:
VIN 1FTSX31P64EC39787
Spring Code UY
I have done some searching but I do not see a listing for Y codes? Are U springs softer than V springs for the front?
I have been searching for C codes as I am adding a second fuel tank and would rather have the Cs instead of the Bs
Does anyone know the rating for these?
Thanks,
Rob

mecdac- Thanks for the link but the problem us Canucks is the exchange rate to the US dollar(currently 1.3 to your 1) and the shipping charges.
