piston question

piston question

Hey guys did I ruin the piston by cleaning it in a mild type of muratic acid ?

Looks kinda bad... Maybe it will buff out. If not, what size is it? I have a few incomplete sets in good useable condition. Might not have been so bad if you had removed the pin and clip first. Dissimilar metals in acid reminds me of a battery...

Yeah I thought but that, I had couple pops that night thought it would be a good idea cause the piston was all rusty and full of scale from the p.o. It's from a 272 y block will check size when I get a chance

If it is std, I may have one or more good to decent pistons. Be aware there are two different width ring grooves.

I don't know but I think you ruined that letter in the photo!

If it were mine i would soak that in oil over the wrist pin, real soon. the muriatic acid could easily rust that pin and lock it in position. then for sure it will be ruined.

A long as you get it apart and make sure there is no acid in the pin area I do not see a reason you could not use it as long as everything else is good with the piston.
