Was your old belt wearing on the outside edges at all? If so, something is out of align.

Double check and make sure your routing is correct. I'm unsure about the 7.3 but many trucks you can route wrong.

You might check the hub on the water pump. I had one that started to come off the shaft, and the belt would ride to the inside, and wore a couple of ribs off the belt.

Might be time for the SD tensioner mod.

Did you get the correct belt? Depending on year some are 6 rib and some are 7 rib, IIRC.

Check the water pump pulley like Tom said. Mine walked on me as well. Look above the miter and line it up between the crank and some other pulleys.

^^^^^ Just eye-balling the pulleys from either side (fender) of the engine might identify a pulley that's out of alignment, either one that's too far forward / too far aft, or one that's not in the same "plane" (at a bad angle) as the other pulleys.

In particular, wind up the tensioner and unwind it again, and watch the pulley as you do so. Even if the spring is tight, if there's wear in the body of the tensioner, you'll notice that the angle of the pulley changes as the spring unwinds and it tensions the belt. That can chew up a belt.
