I don't think I have pictured the wood running board construction in this thread, so here's a little review. The old ones were in horrible condition and good one ton boards are very hard to find.
Using wood in unusual ways has been a theme here. This is how I reamed the new king pin bushings with a 3/4" dowel that I slotted on my bandsaw. I then inserted a couple of folded pieces of torn sanding belt and chucked it into a drill. It was very controlable and I was able to stop at just the right place so that the pins when oiled dropped down slowly with gravity. The truck steers very well now.
You are a mix between MacGyver and Norm Abrams! I meet Norm once while I was working on this old house. I started on a Wednesday morning installing copper gutters and I kept asking the carpenters where's Norm? They would respond by saying " Norm who?"he finally should up on Saturday the same time the cameras did! Speaking about cameras... Where's the movie? Lol
Norm started a revolution for sure. Compared to the nuts they come up with today on reality shows, he seemed like a pretty normal guy. Somehow he was a success without throwing tools or screaming at his employees...... Haven't heard much from the Hollywood pair lately. I know they are busy and I hate to bug them. Yesterday his wife sent a picture of him interviewing me to get some voice over for the production. We should be starting his dining table next week, so that will give me a reason to contact him again and I can casually mention my video. I know his wife has been in Charleston directing an episode of a show called 'under the dome'. Next week she's in NY directing an episode of 'madame secretary'. The guys at our napa store here call me 'Gary McGyver' ever since I converted my '59 to a cummins diesel with a gm tranny and a '92 f350 rear end. There is seldom a line at the counter so they have been very patient with looking up things like a throw out bearing by the sizes in the books and working backwards. IIRC the '59 has a throw out bearing from of all things, a corvair.....

Gary, looks like you are in time out!LOL! I have been in grandpa timeout off and on the last few days with the little ones around. they tire me out so I need a time out! By the way, the throw out bearing for a '59 Ford F350 just happens to also work in a Corvair!
Funny, my wife's grandkids arrived about a half hour ago. They live in California and the family, like so many today is in turmoil. I totally understand what you mean, but these two are 8 and 10 and are quite pleasant. Ask me again in a week . I raised 4 kids and I thought I was done.....I have 2 grandkids of my own now also.
Gary, What species of wood is the cargo floor? I'm thinking of covering the 14" floor gap around/over the fire pump with a base layer of something, sound deadening, and a top layer of something. My first thought was sheet metal, but now I am thinking the same wood as the cargo floor would be a better top layer. The gold/yellow object in the picture is the water tank which comes up to the front edge of the cutout. I will probably remove the tank first.
