Haunted stereo.

Haunted stereo. My factory stereo will turn itself on! Ok what is happening is the cd will try to engage as I am driving, even though there is no cd in the slot. It is a single cd player. What triggers the cd to start playing? How do I correct this issue. FYI 2000 F350 Am Fm Casette, CD factory stereo. I would rather repair factory stereo, than go aftermarket, In fact I would get another factory or go without.

I don't know for sure but I would bet that there's a switch triggered by the cd holder. Guessing that the switch would contact the side of the cradle that holds the cd. The switch might be shorting and causing that dilemma. Good luck with an OEM exchange.

x 2, the problems you are having reside within tjhr head unit itself, repairing the factory head unit will be costly and there's very good chance the repair may only last for short time since the problem is most likely inherent to that model head unit..

May I ask why you are set against using an aftermarket head unit ?

I guess I need to go back on my words. I would prefer to go with factory over aftermarket. Mainly because I am able to keep my eyes on the road more without a learning curve. I mainly only use the radio, and use the volume control, and the search button. I have installed Pioneer, Sony, Dual, radios in other vehicles and heavy equipment, and I would prefer the ford factory. I just would like to find out how to disable the CD player. Sorry it took so long to reply, just very busy right now not much free time.

You won't be able to disable the CD player without going inside the head unit, from there you could kill power to the mechanism that operates the CD player..

Yes that is what I would prefer to do. I have had the head unit apart, just did not know what to do once in there, so I put back together.

The problem is with the Head Unit switching the function from Radio to CD, you could disable the drive mechanism for the CD player itself but disabling the CD player function selector is beyond the scope of my reach..
