Got my rebuild kit in from Mike's and went through the carb.
Looks like a really simple piece but I'm not sure how to go about getting it just right. It cranks and idles fine. And when I blip the throttle, it revs like it should. Basically, it's running pretty good, but I want to be sure it's correct.
I was taught the basic way to adjust a carb is: Turn the jet screw in until the engine stumbles. Counting the turns, back it out until the engine stumbles again. Turn it back in 1/2 of that number of turns.
Short of using a flow meter, that's about it.
If you can locate an older style timing light you won't need any outside power. They were very simple and used the pulse from the distributer to light the bulb. One wire clamps on the plug and the other inside the plug wire.
Throttle valves aka primary butterflies, are adjusted by the idle speed screw and should be set to approximate idle speed before adjusting idle mixture screws and readjusted as needed while adjusting idle mixture screws.
