i have a problem that no one seems to want to help me with. i have a 65 f100 with a 1970 390 and a motocraft 2bbl carb. i took this truck out of storage a few months ago and tuned it up and changed all fluids, the truck ran like a bandit. all of a sudden when i would start it and pull out, it would start boggin out and shaking. I'm thinking it's a carb problem with the fuel and air mixture not mixed right. it is a new carb, so i don't think it needs rebuilding. a friend of mine said that it is sucking in too much air and when i floor it, it's ok. but pulling out of a stop sign is kind of embarassing due to the shaking and slow starts. i don't know how to turn the screws to give it the correct idle mixture.
PLEASE HELP!!
It is odd that it ran good then acted up, this would indicate to me that possibly so debris has gotten into the carb and clogged a port somewhere.
The two screws on the front bottom of the carb are the idle mixture screws. They should be close to the same thread postion when adjusted. Turning them in will lean out the mixture and backing them out will richen it. Go 1/4 turn at a time either way until you get the highest idle, then turn them back in 1/4 turn.
When adjusting, do one 1/4 turn on one screw than do the other. Alternate back and forth when adjusting to keep both sides of the carb about the same.
