so i've posted on here a couple times about my title issue on my truck but really thought i could get it fixed. bought it with no title, just bill of sale and guy had no clue about the title. said his dad had owed it for as long as he could remember but didnt think it ever had a title. so i applied for one with the bill of sale and got a letter saying it was junked in 60. called the local dmv and asked what that meant and they said it cant be titled as a 50 anymore because of that, you will have to get a rebuilt title for it and title it as a 15. not wanting to do that i finally found the number for the main office and called them up today and asked if there was any other options and they told me no, a junk title is a death certificate for the truck and it cant be titled in any way shape or form period. i can only use it for parts and can only use "a very few". has anyone ever ran into this? dumbest thing ive heard of. this truck is in great shape with very minimal rust and i really dont want to give up on it. any ideas? open to anything at this point. im in SD and not sure if i could transfer it to somewheres and get it cleared up or not.
i would but have yet to come across one. would be willing to do just a cab or frame with a title but have had no luck. havent been looking mega hard cause i really thought this was fixable but its looking like a no go.
Any relatives in other states? See how their state(s)) handle junk titles. Not all are the same. It is possible you could "sell it" to a relative, have them title it, then "sell it" back to you with a good out of state title.
It could wind up being a bit pricey, but, if you really want that truck......
The problem he'll have is the truck's serial number is in the SD system. Even if he "sells" it to someone out of state, when he brings it back the red flag will raise again.

Most states require a physical inspection of the vehicle to confirm the "VIN".
One more option, does your truck have any standings on the firewall? If so, you could try titling the truck with those numbers. Since the numbers are stamped into the body, the DMV may accept them as the "VIN" and title it as a 50.
I go to car shows and I see they sell titles with vin plates, I really don't see the problem with that, these vehicles are 60 or70 years old in accidents back then parts were just swaped a way with out much thought. If your concerned by a junker with a good title and use that.
$550 '50 F1 in Lake Park Mn - Says Parts only ... But you could run that Vin# by SD system. If it's not in there maybe you are good to go... 1948-50 ford f1 pickup

You do realize that you're advising him to commit a Federal Felony, right? You might not see the problem but law enforcement sure does, as well as state DMVs.

I just called the guy and he said there was no title. He also said that in MN. you could apply for one. Not too sure about that. Might do some checking to make sure.
Harleymsn you are right about that! But I have actually been to car shows were there are vendors that sell titles, I have seen them with vin plates as well, as far as parts being swapped I'm talking about 60 years ago when accidents occurred and parts were changed out specifically cabs I'm sure the documentation wasn't like what it is today, I certainly don't want anyone getting arrested. Check out hemmings motor news there are people that deal with titles
