Filler over epoxy

I've shot the cab of my 67 with epoxy. Can I use filler straight on the epoxy, or do I need to strip the area to bare metal first. I'm planning on going with one of the Rage fillers.

Thanks!

Check with your supplier but most epoxy's are designed just for that......to apply the filler on top.

Okay, thanks. I thought that was the case, but never hurts to double check!

Scuff and fill if you go to bare metal you kind of defeat the purpose of having it epoxy coated. The epoxy coat is IMO a great way to go after media blasting to preserve the metal.

Most epoxies that I have ever used have a window of 24 to 48 hours to coat right on top of the filler with no sanding. After the window just scuff it before you apply filler. Something to keep in mind, don't mix epoxies with acid etching primers. I'm sure you know but if you start with an epoxy for a adhesion promoter, stay with an epoxy throughout. Just my 2 cents

I, on the other hand, always put the filler under the epoxy unless it is simply a little ding that is being filled. Filler sticks a lot better to metal hit with 36 grit then it will ever stick to epoxy. Note paint manufacturers say filler over epoxy and filler manufacturers say epoxy over filler.

The ones I have should be fairly small, I plan on pulling out the bigger of the two with the slide hammer and stud gun.

I do agree, most of the dents I do the major work before I spray epoxy. I would never wipe mud over a bird bath on top of epoxy. Bigger work you can still treat it like paint and grind trough before applying filler. The beauty of epoxies is it is so durable that you can even hammer and dolly over it when properly cured so the filler work can be minimal.
