Help with some ESOF problems please
2001 f250 7.3 crew. Truck has been in family for 9 years and esof never worked, just dealt with a long 4x2 in mountainous winters(not fun) I finally want to figure out what's up. I heard about different relays that could be bad under the hood that would cause problems but never tested them. The real eye brow raiser here is the fact that the 4x4 light is always illuminated on the dash. (One time several years ago out of a stroke of luck the 4x4 kicked in in a bad situation) could it be a simple motor that is bad? (Hence the constant 4x4 light but no 4x4) or is a relay or heaven forbid a GEM. Or should I just search craigslist for a manual transfer case for $400

do you lock your hubs? also does the tcase engage when all this happens? or does it not shift? ESOF may not work but you should be able to use 4x4 whenever if you have an issue by locking the front hubs on both wheels and turning the switch which engage the tcase motor
