went to change the small filter that is mounted just behind the radiator and is inline with the 5r100 . with a socket on the bottom all i was able to do was flex the brackets ging to the 3 mounting bolts as this thing is on there real good. Any ideas or previous experience unthreading the bottom cup to access filter? thanks, ROn
Soak the top where it threads on with kroil,pb blaster or your favorite penetrating oil wait. I had to use an impact gun on mine to get it off when i first bought my truck. Beware though some have broke the filter housing doing this.
Impact gun is the way to go. By the way, it's not an inline filter. It's a bypass filter. When reinstalling coat the O ring with some oil and do not over torque. The O ring seals not the threads. When the filter cap bottoms, your done.
The nut on the bottom of mine broke off when using an impact. I then used an air chisel to remove the housing, bought a new housing and used anti-seize on the new housing. No problems after that first time.
I would use oil, not anti-seize. If any of that got into the tranny, I don't think the solenoids or clutches would like it. I have even used Vaseline with no problems.
