I have a frame mounted transmission filter and i do not know what kind it is or anything else so getting a filter is a PITA The filter that is on it is about 4" tall. I have been everywhere and no one has the right filter for it. I did find that a Fram i think its an HP1 oil filter is the right size and it is 8" tall. I was wondering can i get a regular oil filter and use it as a trans filter?
If a Fram HP-1 will screw on and the gasket is seated on the flange, then your filter base has a 3/4"x16 thread, and you have a lot of choices of filters from which to choose.
The best one I've found for this application is a Baldwin BT111, but another one you could use would be a Motorcraft FL-1A (one of those "regular" oil filters).
Seriously consider adding some small neodymium magnets to catch circulating ferrous particles. They do the same thing that the ring magnet in your trans pan does, but are easier to access to clean.

i changed the filter today and put the fram HP1 on it. i just wanted to know if using an engine oil filter for a trans filter would hurt anything. were could i get those magnets at?

If you go to his signature, you'll find a link to spin on trans filter. Click on that and you'll find a link to where you can get the magnets.
