I'm in the market for new shocks for my '08 F250, and I have been eyeing the Monroe Reflex series as I've had them on a couple of other pickups over the years and always been happy with them. However, a local CL ad popped up with a set of low mileage factory FX4 Rancho shocks... What is the general consensus on the OEM Rancho's? Are they a decent shock worth swapping on, or would I be better off with the Monroe units? I know everyone wants to hop on the Bilstien bandwagon but I have no need for that much shock in this application and frankly don't want the increased ride stiffness due to the charge in the shock, BTDT and won't do it again.
My OE Rancho's lasted a very long time
I replaced them w/Rancho 7000's.....Way to "stiff" IMO (returned)
Ended up with Rancho 9000's which are awesome, adjust them how u like
Be aware that the OEM FX4 shocks are "Rancho branded", not the Ranchos you'd buy at 4 Wheel Parts. Same way the $8 Starter dri-fit shirt at Wal-Mart is not the same Starter shirt you'd buy just about anywhere else.
I just put RS9000XL's on my truck, too. I wanted the adjustibility. I ran Bilstien 4600s on my Bronco (apples to oranges, I know) and wasn't impressed. Plus, Rancho has a rebate offer going on right now. (Promotions)
The 9000's are like $85 or $90 each through rockauto (plus shipping). You can easily find a 5% off coupon online for them, and then get the $106 back from Rancho. After all is said and done, that's about $230 for 4 brand new, adjustable shocks.

Sounds like I need to get to looking for a coupon and rebate information. I had the Rancho 9000 on my F150 FX4 ecoboost.
