Not froml a creditable source, but I heard the 5" caused more egts which is the reason I went ahead and got the 4" because I don't really need the extra sound. Gotta keep this as a daily.....
Well I don't see how EGT could increase with a larger exhaust, just doesn't make logical sense to me...about the noise, I don't care how loud the truck is, and it will still be my daily driver. Where I live I have no need to worry about a loud vehicle drawing unwanted attention. I just want the best bang for the buck in terms of lower egt and performance. It's all about is the 5 worth the extra coin?
I personally have never heard of anyone switching from a 4 inch to a 5 and it making a world of difference. Based on that, I would say it's not worth the extra money unless money is no object and you prefer the sound/look of a 5.

Oh money is definitely an issue, I don't work 60+hrs a week and work around the farm as well because I am rich.... If there is a significant gain in the 5in I would be ok with the additional cost, but if its just sound...well sound don't make the truck go...know what I mean? I have an ever growing list of upgrades I want to do, some for power and torque, others for longevity...so getting the most bang for my buck is where my interests lie.
I am getting the feeling its all about sound/look and being able to say I got a 5in instead of the 4in....I am old enough and wise enough to not worry about impressing anyone with an extra inch
When I do this, I don't want to regret not getting the 5 if I later find out it is actually better in performance and lower EGT.....but at the same time I don't wanna regret getting the 5 because its just about the same as the 4
Well I have jibber jabbered on long enough...lets hear from all the FTE experts...(pretty much everyone else on this forum but me )
To the OP...sorry bout that
Sidenote::: This is gonna be straight piped...no Cat, and no Muffler....

Reason: Forgot the details...my bad
I am considering either diamond eye 5in turbo back or 4in turbo back...anyone think the 5 is worth the cost?
And while I am at it...anyone have experience with the AFe turbo back System, they look nice wondering if they are worth the extra money.
Sorry for the crazy caps above..phone is acting crazy.
I just put a 5" on my truck. very nice kit, fit well and I like the sound. Just make sure you throw the u-bolt clamps in the scrap pile and get band clamps
I have 5" diamond eye from Riff Raff. I don't recall the 5 and 4 being much different in price. If you have a 2WD truck the 5" is a VERY tight fit. Do yourself a favor, and stick with the 4".

I had been leaning towards the 5 but the more I read I think the 4 will probably be what I get, seems like everyone gets the Diamond Eye, I probably will as well, but the aFe and MBRP both look better in the pics I have seen....ahh decisions decisions.

Agreed. Even with my F250 being 4wd the rear pip is too close to the rear axle. I am ditching the 2" block and putting a 4" today. A 2wd would hit for sure

Glad I hijacked this thread I am now 99% sure to go with a 4in....now just settle on a brand...

Check the pricing on summit racing's website.... I found them to be the cheapest at the time for the 4"
I didn't know at the time, and I am kinda new to the whole diesel performance deal, so I just went ahead and got a 4". Seemed like a good compromise because the truck is already somewhat loud with the stock exhaust I just want to hear the turbo and let it breath some more.
Loud with stock exhaust? Something doesn't make since Lucy? You won't ever quiet that rattle up front down lol
Bump for more opinions.
I like the diesel sound but don't want to hear it loud on the 1000 mile trips with the family.
does adding the muffler hurt performance to the 4''?
If so has anyone gone to the duel pipes? does it help?
Has anyone gone to the 5'' with exhaust?
I am getting a 4x4 long bed crew cab. adding a lift to it too.
My goal is best power gain without going deaf any further or having my kids games/ music on high volume to drowned out the noise.
I don't hear anything unless I'm passing a wall or anothe car on the passenger side. But my rear was howling so loud it drowned pretty much everything out lol
The 5" isnt LOUD, yes its deeper than a 4" but not bad. CCLB exhaust is far away from you remember. I daily drive mine and its fine.. Theres a kid around town who's got a strait 4" and it sounds real blatty to me.. Imho the 5" sounds deeper but a little more proper, not so machine gun pea shooter..
