I have used Techron additive for many years in prior vehicles, never found a need to have my injectors cleaned. My problem is with the 'no gas cap' system. When I attempt to pour it the liquid merely goes out an overflow hose onto the ground. I don't readily see a way to open the 'flap' to the tank. Anybody been there and done that? Thx
Yes, my 2009 most definitely had a capless filler. If I remember correctly the flap was fairly close to the top of the filler. It has to be close enough for the pump nozzle to open. Surely a long spout funnel would work. I wish I could remember exactly how I did it.
I am convinced from my research that Techron is the best. I cannot attest to any noticeable change when I used it, as I use Chevron gasoline almost exclusively anyway. I haven't tried it in my diesel though and I don't reckon I will, but Chevron gasoline it is in my and my wife's cars.
What the cetane rating and additives are in diesel fuel seems to be an extremely well guarded secret, but that is another topic.
Yes, Techron is what I use also. The flap is fairly near the top. I pushed on it somewhat with a screwdriver, it wouldn't budge. I stopped, not wanting to break something. It's certainly under alot more tension than the flap in a regular capped tank. Thx for assisting.
I am not an expert by any means, but it seems it would HAVE to open, otherwise how would you get any gasoline in the tank.
I can't imagine you could break it (but I won't garuntee it). Look at where the hinge is the next time you add fuel and push on the opposite side.
This has become a personal challenge for me. I don't know anyone with a similar vehicle to yours, but I will make some inquires.
Please keep me posted.
every vehicle with capless fuel filler has a funnel in vehicle usually near the jack storage to be able to add heat or additives or fuel if needed out of a can. should be a white funnel and will release the tabs on each side to open the "flapper".
Never knew there was a funnel included _ never had an issue with sport, so never looked at it much !
but my $2 walmart 10" funnel works well for that on our 13 Sport
We were just looking at new Transit Connects and there was a white/clear plastic funnel with a narrow bell end in the glovebox. Sales guy said it was for adding fuel to the tank out of a can; I imagine it would be the same with adding Techron, which I use and believe in. (By the way, Techron is really cheap at Costco especially on months when they knock an extra few bucks off a 6 pack.)
My 2013 F150 has the capless tank and it comes with a small clear tube that is located by the jack as stated above. Otherwise you run the risk of everything just pouring out on the ground.
