since i,m pretty sure the small noise my engine makes comes from the gas pomp. i thinking of cleaning engine replace gaskets and new seals. oil pressure is good,i would install 2 new water pumps. i don,t want to take apart any unnecessary stuff, or open pandora,s box. should i replace headgaskets! engine is very oily. how about crank seals ,they are probably 2 peace any tricks or modifications to stop leaks. i don,t really like oily engines. my motor is a v8 flathead with crab style distributor. any good reading on the subject, for tips and tricks! if i understand 130lbs compression is good.
thanks brian
If it doesn't leak something from somewhere, it isn't a flathead. There are limits of course but if it's holding good compression, water temp and oil pressure I wouldn't mess with it. Clean it up some and see where the worst leaks are and go from there.
Hi,
Just looking at your project after I saw your comments on my thread!
If I'm not wrong... For water pumps you will have 2 choices, std or improved impeller... Has flathead have tendency to overheat i would go with the improved impeller.
For the oily problem... Try to locate the exact leak... If not you will play a game that could never end!
