Hello all,
i have a 89' Bronco w/351W and the 8.8 rear end in it is shot so i'm trying to find some one or place to decifer my axle code, also the factory id tag is gone. Any and all help will be appreciated
Look at the Vehicle Certification Label (decal) located inside the driver's side door jam. It will list the axle code. For a 5.8L Bronco it could be one of four : '18' is the code for a 3.08:1 open rear axle, 'H8' is for a 3.08:1 limited-slip, '19' is for a 3.55:1 open, and 'H9' is for a 3.55:1 limited-slip. If the code has three digits(examples 'H82', or 'H92'), then your Bronco also has a front limited-slip axle. From the factory, to get a front limited-slip, the truck had to be ordered with manual-locking hubs. A 4.10:1 rear limited-slip axle was also available(code is 'H5'), but supposedly it was only offered with the 302/AOD option. Hope this helps.
DeGideo,
That helps alot, i already knew my axle code is 18 and where the label i and i had researced it on the net a little but couldn't find anything specific about broncos, so i posted my question to see if i could comfirm my research. So now i have to begin my search of the bone yards for a descent used axle. Any suggestions with that would be great!!!!
So thanks again!!
