Adding shims to 10.25 open rear

I bought a used locker for my front dana 50 (woohoo) but I want a posi rear to. Can I shim the spiders tighter for a sort of poor mans limited slip until I save the $$$ for a lock rite? I've heared of guys doing it in 9" and 8.8 for years, with good temporary results. The 10.25 shouldn't be any different correct? A couple .005" shims should help her hook posi until the shims wear out?? I don't want to weld, I'm afraid of snapping an axle when I put weight in the bed, and it seems dangerous when towing in my mind, plus I wouldn't be able to reuse my carrier for the lock rite. Thanks in advance!!

If your 10.25 is the LS version then yes shimming the clutch packs tighter will improve it's performance.
